A Heroic Brand Evolution Story

Mergers of equals are rare events in the government technology market, but Octo and Sevatec broke the mold in December 2020, announcing their deal to combine and create a larger middle-tier federal IT player.
Within a two-week turnaround time, Bluetext helped guide Octo through a brand evolution, aligning both the Sevatec and Octo brand identity into the new cohesive Octo corporate visual identity after the two organizations combined. The goal was to build a modern visual identity that could steer the united company messaging, business goals, and recruitment objectives.

What Makes this Brand Evolution Successful?

While logos are new, the brand elements needed to stay similar to the existing ones. Bluetext demonstrates how Octo can modernize their CVI, rather than starting over from scratch. Special shout out to the new primary orange, blue, typeface, alongside upgrades to iconography, image subject material, and treatment.

Bluetext designed a graphic identity that aligns Octo and Sevatec’s legacies as one united mission. The logo illustrates a juxtaposition of complexity and process. Nicknamed the “Octa-knot” the style shows depth, adaptability, and finesse. With the arrow in the center anchoring everything together, there is a sense of balance, while also keeping you on your toes. The interwoven angles that make up the octo-knot show an infinite looping system, conceptualizing the story of an ever-changing industry, with both an infinite demand to improve and an infinite opportunity to innovate.
